Aramid Felt
Aramid Felt
Aramid felt is a high-performance porous material formed by nonwoven technology, usingaramidstaple fibers (meta-aramid PMIA 1313 / para-aramid PPTA 1414, available in single-component or blended types) as raw materials. According to forming processes, it isdivided intothree categories: aramid surface veil, aramid needle-punched felt and aramid spunlaced felt
Meta-aramid 1313: features high temperature resistance, flame retardancy and dimensional stability.
Para-aramid 1414: features ultra-high strength, cut resistance and abrasion resistance.
Common core properties: inherently flame retardant with LOI 28; carbonizes at high temperature without melting and dripping; excellent electrical insulation; resistant to weak alkalis and organic solvents. Not resistant to high-concentration strong acids, fluorides and strongly oxidizing flue gas (SOx/HF).
Product Performance
| Item | Performance Description |
| Temperature Resistance | Meta-aramid grade offers a continuous service temperature of 204°C and a short-term peak temperature of up to 240°C. Para-aramid grade can withstand higher transient shock temperatures. |
| Flame Retardancy | LOI ≥28; self-extinguishing upon removal of the ignition source; no melt dripping; UL 94 V-0 rated. |
| Electrical Insulation | Excellent dielectric properties; suitable as an H-class electrical insulation substrate; good compatibility with varnish impregnation. |
| Chemical Resistance | Resistant to weak alkalis and organic solvents; not resistant to highly concentrated strong acids or fluorides. |
Product Introduction
Aramid surface veil is an ultra-thin aramid nonwoven fabric. It is formed by wet-laid or dry-laid web of aramid staple fibers plus binder. Fibers are randomly distributed without needle punching or hydroentanglement. Fibers are bonded and consolidated by binder. Positioning: Special thin veil for the surface layer of composite materials. Rarely used alone. When laid on the surface of glass fiber / carbon fiber composites, it forms a resin-rich layer to improve surface finish, enhance microcrack resistance, weather resistance and corrosion resistance.

Aramid needle-punched felt is made of aramid staple fibers (typically 100% meta-aramid 1313, or a blend of 80% meta-aramid and 20% para-aramid), with an embedded aramid scrim. Repeated punching by barbs causes fibers to interlock in a 3D entangled structure for reinforcement. It features tiny pinholes on the surface and a bulky structure, and can be manufactured in heavy weights. It is the dominant material for high-temperature dust filtration.
Aramid spunlaced felt is produced from aramid staple fibers (the mainstream blend is 80% meta-aramid 1313 + 20% para-aramid 1414; 100% meta-aramid version is also available). Fibers are opened and formed into web, then entangled by high-pressure water jets. No needles or scrim are used; consolidation is achieved purely through fiber interlocking. It has pinhole-free surface, soft texture and uniform fiber distribution.
